Living with a House Rabbit

This is possibly the most valuable rabbit-related book we have ever read (non-fiction of course, there can be no comparisons here with Beatrix Potter). As somewhat green about the ear first time rabbit keepers we were relieved to find a book which was so straight forward and accessible. Apparently it is also delicious, ours bears several gnaw marks from the Bun Chop himself. Initially, pre-Bun (those heady and care-free days when the carpet wasn't covered in hay and we hadn't to be back before sun down so he didn't feel alone in the dark) we used the book as an, ahum, 'visual aid'. Put simply, we fawned over the photos, dreaming of the day when we too would gently tip our rabbit onto his back and brush his tummy. Of course now BunChop has had other ideas but back in the day we could dream....

As, at times, anxious first time owners, the book provided reassuring information on the very first stages of ownership, from bringing your new rabbit home and it's likely behaviour. BC's initial timidity was explained away and the advice to quietly sit by his cage and let him get to know you was a brilliant bonding excercise.

The book covers almost every area of houserabbit upkeep and is especially helpful in it's dietary advice, from food volumes to feed and feed-not lists. We would never have dreamed of sharing strawberry tops or melon with him otherwise. Of course, as with humans,it is always a bit hit and miss - BC won't touch sweetcorn and was underwhelmed with green pepper...
