Day 10. The great beyond
Following the previous days adventure we decided to let him see a bit more of the world. We haven’t decided if the sitting room is his permanent home, there are so many wires and the constant fear that he will get under the sofa and not come back. With all exits sealed and the potted plant moved we felt confident that escape would not be a possibility. So we repeated the previous nights routine; lifted the cage, let him jump out onto familiar legs, allowed him sniffing time and then let him wander further a field. Initially the wall paper held him in thrall. What was this cool, white expanse? Why couldn’t he bite it? Gaining confidence he began to bound off our legs and explore the carpet. Uh oh, carpet. Yes we’d read the stories but he was fascinated and took the time to try and dig his way into the underlay. With a well placed ‘No!’ we got him out of that but it was all a bit too much for him. Maybe we let him run before he could walk because he started to get, well, the only word is skittish. He likes his mad five minutes but this was mental. He was every where at once and when we tried to stop his path he thumped his back leg. Big uh oh. And then he honked. Big big uh oh. Back in the cage with him!
It was the first time he had made a noise and we were shaken. Are we such bad owners that we had upset him? With a dose of guilt we gave him some greens and let him settle down in his little tray whilst we feverishly Googled bunny noises. Yes, he wasn’t too happy with us. He wasn’t just a grumpy bun, he was a little bit angry and a little bit scared. Will he forgive us? Maybe, but not over the weekend.
